On Monday, July 1st, 2002, Internos Music Organization
and The Malibu Dance Outreach Program brought
music to the children at Hillsides, our first stop in our
new outreach program, which will bring music to childrens
residential facilities in Los Angeles County. The children
residing at Hillsides have been severely abused and abandoned
and need special care in order to recover. Their ages range
from 6 to 18, and most of them will never be able to leave
the campus. As Internos Music Organization arrived at Hillsides,
a volunteer said, In the seventeen years Ive been
here, Ive never seen live music put on for these children.
Internos will further its relationship with Hillsides, not
only by bringing these children live musical performances,
but also by bringing music lessons and workshops, and providing
them with training and technique that will be used as a part
of the rehabilitation process.
This first concert series featured RICK KUREK, THE JAZZ
RENEGADE (featuring Keith Barry, Michael Bolger, Ravi
Knypstra, and George Edwards), and BROTHER (featuring
Hamish Richardson, Angus Richardson, and Rick Kurek). In one
evening, we were able to touch the lives of over 50 children!
The children were completely open-eyed while dancing and singing
along! We give heartfelt thanks to these musicians who gave
their time, their music, and educated these children with
a Q & A that was held after the concert. Please visit
the Hillsides website at http://www.hillsides.org. For more
