L.A.’s Internos Music Organization Launches
Fundraising Campaign with Benefit CD and Fundraiser

Los Angeles, CA – August 5, 2002 -- Internos Music Organization (www.internosmusic.org), a nonprofit organization that provides private music instruction, instruments, and other services to underprivileged youth in Los Angeles, has gathered an illustrious group of Los Angeles-based musicians on a new compilation CD entitled “Between Us: Angelenos for Music Education”.

There are several songs by local celebrities on the CD – Los Lobos, John Doe, Peter Case, and Dave Alvin among others - and unsigned singer/songwriters with a handful of tracks by Internos beneficiaries, children aged 8-16, who perform music from their lessons. The CD was conceived, financed and produced by Chris Jerde who will release this inaugural compilation on the newly formed Credit Records label. The project is a tribute to the perseverance of L.A.’s music community in face of diminishing resources for music education in public schools. The CD will be available August 20th in local record stores, on the Internos website, and other retail outlets. The CD will list for $14.98, and 100% of proceeds from the first 1,000 units sold are donated to Internos. After 1,000 units are sold, all net proceeds (sales less royalties and manufacturing) go to Internos.

To further promote Internos Music Organization and the “Between Us” benefit CD, Credit Records and the L.A. Weekly will sponsor an Internos fundraiser at the Derby (4500 Los Feliz Blvd.) in Los Feliz on Sunday, August 18, from 7:30 pm – midnight.

Hosted by Dave Adelson (E! Television host, executive editor of HITS magazine), the benefit concert will showcase singer/songwriters from “Between Us” such as Patrick Park, Sally Semrad, Tom Freund, Tracy Spuehler, James Combs, Alexi Murdoch, Renee Stahl, and Trevor Lissauer. Guests at the benefit can place silent bids on rock n’ roll paraphernalia, including donations from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Wallflowers. All proceeds from the door ($10 minimum donation), the sale of the benefit CD, and the silent auction will be donated to Internos.

Internos Music Organization is a 501(c)(3)-registered nonprofit that provides local underprivileged children with private music instruction, instruments, and exposure to music events and workshops. With public schools facing enormous budgetary constraints, Internos strives to foster burgeoning talent of L.A.’s most dedicated and deserving youth. Since its inception in 2000, Internos has served over 75 children, ages 18 and under. Eighty percent of donations to Internos are directed to private music instruction, while the remainder covers the costs of instruments, supplies, and minimal overhead. Internos maintains relationships with many private teachers and music facilities, including the Silverlake Conservatory of Music (Flea, the proprietor of the Conservatory, also sits on Internos’ board). Internos was founded by Kim Bajorek and Melissa Blakey, in memory of their cherished friend and composer, Jim Bishop, who died at the age of 31 and had scored a composition entitled Internos (which translates to “Between Us” in Latin).

Credit Records is an independent record label that specializes in culturally significant compilation recordings. “Between Us” is the first release on the label, and a series of further compilations are scheduled for release in December 2002.
